My first requested post! Yay!
It seems like the latest beauty trend is BB cream, but its only been here in the U.S. a hot minute. Lets talk about BB.
As defined by Wikipedia “BB cream stands for blemish balm, blemish base, beauty balm or beblesh balm (apparently because of a trademark in Korea on the word “blemish”), and in Western markets, beauty balm. It is a cosmetic item sold mainly in East and Southeast Asia, although larger beauty brands are increasingly introducing BB creams to Western markets”.
The reason why this product was so popular in Asia is the idea of healthy, porcelain like skin that is extremely valued in Asian culture. BB cream is supposed to even out skin tone and help reduce the appearance of redness or dark spots. Many companies in the US have promoted this idea for years, but BB made it relevant by the versatility of the product.
“BB cream is promoted as an all-in-one facial cosmetic product to replace serum, moisturizer, primer, foundation, and sunblock. It can be worn alone as a tinted moisturizer, over serum and moisturizer as a regular foundation, and under powder, depending on the desired amount of coverage”.
Most of us want a multi tasking product, especially with makeup. BB was to be miracle item in your makeup bag, but from the reviews I’ve read and seen, Asia got it right. The US market is flooded with all types of BB’s, cosmetic companies couldn’t churn them out fast enough!
So which BB beats the rest? I haven’t tried them all but I would suggest getting your hands on one from the other side, only down side to that would be the color selection.
Being a beauty on a budget, I went with a drugstore brand first, Garnier to be exact. I saw both Maybelline and L’Oreal but for the price I decided to go with the best deal. For $12 I got the Garnier Skin Renewal Miracle Skin Perfecter aka BB cream. What I liked about it was the texture, I prefer thicker creams when it comes to facial moisturizer. Its tint was noticeable but not overwhelming. Only issue would be the amount of shine my face had! I’m combination oily skin so the new oil free formula will be better option for me. Also with this Texas heat it helps to lessen the need for foundation, which is a huge plus.
Take a look at the swatches (thank you
pinterest) and see what you’re looking for. If you’re looking to cut down time applying product after product on your face, this very well may be your new holy grail.
